Contaminated Land Testing
Contaminated Land Testing & Site Investigation
Before work starts on site, Active Site Clearance offers a range of contaminated land testing and surveying options. We always recommend a thorough contaminated land investigation during the project planning phase of construction, so contaminants and other issues can be identified and dealt with before work begins.
What Testing Involves
We carry out site investigations and soil and groundwater sampling to identify what contaminants are present and how far they extend. We may dig a small hole or trench, by hand or with an excavator, so an expert can assess ground conditions.
Invasive Weeds
If invasive weeds such as Japanese Knotweed or Giant Hogweed are found, we offer a range of eradication options.
What Happens Next
The results show what remediation, if any, a site needs, and often form part of the evidence needed to satisfy planning conditions. Where remediation is needed, we can carry it out ourselves. See our contaminated land remediation services, or our land remediation work in Manchester, Lancashire and Liverpool.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
We carry out site investigations and soil and groundwater sampling to identify what contaminants are present and how far they extend. This gives us the information needed to design the right remediation approach before work starts.
Ideally during the project planning phase, before construction begins. Finding contamination early means it can be dealt with before it affects your programme or budget.
Many local authorities attach conditions to planning consent on former industrial or brownfield sites, requiring contamination to be investigated and, where necessary, remediated before or during development. Testing forms part of the evidence often required to satisfy those conditions. We can advise on what is likely to be required for your site.
We can design and carry out the remediation, from site-specific assessment to clean-up and compliant disposal. See our contaminated land page for more.
Contact us via our contact form or call 01257 462252 with details of the site and, if available, any existing site investigation reports. We will arrange an assessment and provide a prompt fee proposal.
