Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Site clearance is the process of preparing land so it is ready for construction, development, or other use. It involves the removal of all unwanted material from a site, including vegetation, trees, scrub, rubble, and contaminated ground, leaving a clean, safe, and accessible plot. At Active Site Clearance, we manage every aspect of this process, so you have one experienced contractor from start to finish.

Our site clearance services cover a wide range of works, including vegetation and scrub clearance, tree and woodland clearance, tree stump removal, demolition of existing structures, invasive weed treatment (including Japanese Knotweed and Giant Hogweed), contaminated land testing and remediation, and the removal of hazardous, liquid, and general waste materials.

We work on all types of land, including brownfield and greenfield development sites, industrial and commercial plots, railway and utility corridors, agricultural land, and privately owned land. Whether it is a small plot or a large multi-hectare site, we have the equipment and experience to deliver.

We work with a broad range of clients, including property developers, main contractors, civil engineering companies, consultants, architects, local authorities, landowners, and utilities companies. We are equally comfortable working directly for private clients or as part of a larger project supply chain.

Yes. Invasive weeds such as Japanese Knotweed and Giant Hogweed require specialist treatment and cannot simply be cut back or buried. We provide compliant treatment and removal programmes, including the production of a Knotweed Management Plan where required by lenders or planning authorities. All waste is disposed of in accordance with current legislation.

Yes. Where contamination is identified, we can arrange land testing and surveying prior to works commencing and carry out on-site remediation to make the land safe. Our operatives are fully trained CSCS-carded professionals experienced in handling contaminated, hazardous, and liquid wastes.

We aim to handle all material as sustainably as possible. Vegetation and timber can be chipped on-site and used as a mulch or incorporated into topsoil. Larger timber arising from tree clearance can be transported for use as biomass fuel. All waste streams are managed in accordance with current waste legislation, and we can provide appropriate documentation and waste transfer notes.

Depending on the location and nature of the works, certain permissions may be required before clearance can take place. These can include planning consent for the removal of protected trees, an ecological survey if the site may support protected species, and waste carrier licences for the removal of certain materials. We can advise you on what may be needed for your particular site.

Yes. All of our operatives hold the relevant CSCS qualifications for the work they carry out, including specialist cards for handling hazardous and contaminated materials. Our arboricultural team are qualified and experienced in all aspects of tree surgery and clearance. We hold full public liability insurance and all necessary waste carrier licences.

We are based in Lancashire, and operate across the North and Midlands. We regularly work across the North West, Manchester, Merseyside, Cheshire, Yorkshire, Cumbria, the Midlands, and beyond. Distance is not a barrier – please get in touch to discuss your project wherever it is located.

Yes. We are happy to visit a site, assess the scope of work, and advise on the most practical and cost-effective approach to clearance.
