Contaminated Land
Contaminated Land Clearance & Remediation
Active Site Clearance provides contaminated land clearance and remediation, including the removal and safe disposal of hazardous and liquid wastes, for contractors, consultants, architects, landowners and government authorities.
We carry out on-site remediation to clean up contaminated land and leave a clean and valuable site on which to develop. We believe in sustainable land remediation and can continue to offer consultancy once the land has been cleaned.
Site-specific Assessment
Active Site Clearance will undertake a site-specific assessment to identify any contaminants in either soil or groundwater, then implement the most economical clean-up methods and techniques. Contaminants are removed or separated from the land using remediation technologies and then either recycled, reinstated or disposed of, adhering to UK standards and guidelines. This can all be completed whilst minimising the carbon footprint of the clean-up process. Whichever contaminated land remediation strategy is adopted, we ensure that all our work is completed on time and to budget.
Hazardous Site Clearance
The excavation and handling of contaminated materials, hazardous wastes and liquid wastes are only undertaken by our fully trained and experienced operatives, who are all CSCS carded. Waste is removed and disposed of in line with current legislation.
Contaminated Land Testing
Before commencing works on site, Active Site Clearance offers a variety of contaminated land testing and surveying options. We always recommend a thorough land investigation during the project planning phase of construction, to allow any contaminants or other issues to be identified and rectified before work commences. We may manually dig a small hole or trench, or use an excavator, to allow an expert to assess ground conditions. If invasive weeds such as Japanese Knotweed or Giant Hogweed are found, we offer a range of eradication options.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Contaminated land is land where substances in or under the ground, such as heavy metals, hydrocarbons or other pollutants from historic use, could cause harm to people or the environment, or stop the site being used safely. It usually needs investigating and, where necessary, remediating before it can be developed.
Contaminated land clearance is the removal or treatment of contaminated soil and materials from a site so it is safe and ready for development. We carry out a site-specific assessment first, then clear and remediate the land using the most suitable and cost-effective method.
The excavation and handling of contaminated materials, hazardous wastes and liquid wastes are only undertaken by our fully trained and experienced CSCS-carded operatives. Depending on the contaminant, material is treated and recycled, reinstated on site, or removed through licensed waste carriers and disposed of in line with UK standards and guidelines.
We always recommend a thorough contaminated land investigation during project planning, so contaminants can be identified and dealt with before work starts. You can read more about our contaminated land testing services.
The cost depends on the type and extent of contamination, the volume of material involved, the clearance and remediation method, site access, and whether material can be treated on site or has to be removed. Testing and a site-specific assessment come first, so we can provide a detailed fee proposal that shows what is included before work begins.
Contact us via our contact form or call 01257 462252 with details of the site and, if available, any existing site investigation reports. We will arrange an assessment and provide a prompt fee proposal.
